Global Dialogues at AIA New York

Seoul Deputy Mayor Yung Gull Kwon joined in presentation and conversation with Newark Deputy Mayor Stefan Pryor and New York City Chief Urban Designer Alexandros Washburn on Friday January 23, 2009, at AIA New York's Center for Architecture to an overflowing audience. The event, titled Global Dialogues: Seoul, Newark and New York, focused on the integration of environmental design and urbanism, and highlighted initiatives from the three cities. The event was jointly organized by Yung Hee Kim, President of NY Projects, and AIA New York.

Dr. Kwon, the Chief Design Officer and Deputy Mayor of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, responsible for the City's overall design policies and public design fields, showed how Seoul is transforming itself into a "Creative City, Healthy and Ecological City, High-toned Cultural City, Dynamic High-tech City, and Knowledge- and Information-based Global City." Dr. Kwon presented examples of the transformation and future vision of Seoul. Deputy Mayor Pryor presented Newark's strategies for ongoing waterfront development while Mr. Washburn showed details of the High Line project progress. The evening provided the opportunity for cities to learn from each other and gain inspiration, international perspective and foster cooperation.
